My new best friend Roberto, a wonderful little old volunteer, just gave me a tour of the whole theater. We went backstage, saw the set of the new production Tosca, which they were practicing (just the orchestra and one singer), went to the box seats, went to the closed, but beautiful cafe that's open to the public during closed (at least I think it was beautiful...it was really dark), then went up past the cafeteria (?! found it!?) to the dance practice rooms (it was just like dance academy!!) and watched them for a few minutes. Then we went up to the costume room (the one warm place in the entirety of the city of Florence) where they were sewing and ironing. As we walked past the dressing rooms we could see people doing makeup no matter where you walk you can here at least three different tunes of music coming from different places. And no matter where I went, even when we were talking audibly onstage, it was fine because I was with Roberto, and no one was gonna yell at him! It was so great finally getting to see everything everyone does all day and I would love to watch more rehearsals during the day, but no way was I going to wander around on my own. I wish I had some pictures, but it was an impromptu tour; we were technically on a business assignment. All the people here are really great and I would get a cappucino with Roberto anytime. This place really is confusing though. I just thought it was because I didn't know where everything was, but now that I do it seems even more confusing. How are there so many places?! Whatever, at least I located the pasta. That's the important thing.
